More than 4,400 of the world’s leading brands – including American Express, Carnival Cruise Lines, easyJet, and L’Oréal – trust Sitecore for this.

But what makes Sitecore's Experience Platform such a great success? There are three major contributing factors:

  1. the company's culture devoted to software innovation,
  2. its platform solution based on Microsoft .NET technology
  3. (and first of all) its people – its 900+ strong team in close relationship with the customer base, partner and wider developer community.

Sitecore's story began in 1998 when five University of Copenhagen alumni cofounded Pentia A/S, a systems integration company that focused on implementing websites built on Microsoft technologies. Since building and managing websites required developer expertise at the time two of the founders came up with an idea to automate those processes. Their invention patented in the United States under the name „Method for building and managing a web site” was turned into a product that we would call today a web content management system.

Three years later Sitecore became a separate business that initially sold content management systems in the Danish market. Through organic growth and strategic acquisitions of web publishing solutions provider Pectora and Microsoft Commerce Server and a majority investment in social media marketing and community engagement application provider Komfo it became a global provider of customer experience management software. In 2014 Sitecore tripled the size of its North American headquarters to 36,000 square feet in Sausalito, California.

Sitecore International based in Copenhagen today is lead by a new generation of executives, lifelong coders, inventors and change agents – some of whom have arrived from software vendors like Microsoft and SAP. Sitecore has always managed growth successfully by hiring the right people to fill strategic positions. They set the company's direction and culture in the early days and are driving innovation and growth ever since.

The power of technology and community

They, the people have developed the other most important factor of Sitecore's success, the initial web content management product and turned it into the current Sitecore Experience Platform. It is an amazingly successful platform that couldn’t possibly be as powerful without the underlaying Microsoft technology.

Microsoft .NET is a free, cross-platform, open source developer platform for building many different types of applications for the web, mobile and desktop devices, and also for gaming and the internet of things (IoT).

Since .NET is open source, Sitecore and its developers joined the worldwide community of 25,000 developers and 1,700 companies contributing to the .NET platform ensuring fast and coninuous software innovation.

Sitecore's employees also build interactive relationships with the community of their customers and partners through the Sitecore Support Portal and on the Sitecore Developer Resources Portal.
